Grammar

“Studying” grammar can mean many different things; here are some suggestions:

* Use websites like NoRedInk (via Clever) and Khan Academy to practice aspects of grammar, usage, and mechanics that you’re unfamiliar with or that confuse you.

* Peruse websites like Grammarly and Grammarist for clearly written explanations of the most important—and commonly confused—aspects of grammar, usage, and mechanics.

* Study the 20 most-common writing errors. If you need practice with a particular skill, use NoRedInk (via Clever) or Khan Academy.

* Dictation is an excellent listening exercise that requires the knowledge and skillful use of grammar, punctuation, capital letters, and spelling. All you need is a piece of paper and something to write with!

* Develop your “syntactic dexterity”—that is, the ability to compose sentences with variety and maturity—by practicing the exercises in this excellent workbook. (You’ll find the answers beginning on p. 117.)

* Visit Mr. Simone’s Portaportal, where you’ll find a library of links related to writing and reading.

* This page is very new (born in 2022), so please expect this list of suggestions to grow!
